So I looked up cherry desserts and saw some really delicious chocolate cherry desserts so I said to myself why don’t I just make maraschino cherry chocolate chip cookies? It’s the perfect flavor combination.
Cake Mix makes this recipe a quick and easy dessert!
Originally, I wanted to make them completely from scratch but I was lazy and Betty Crocker cake mix is perfect for those lazy days. This is one of the easiest chocolate cookie recipes you’ll ever make.
I also have another chocolate cake mix cookie recipe that I know you’ll love! It produces big, bakery style chocolate cookies that you can customize however you want.
You gotta love cake mix cookies. They’re super easy to make and for this specific recipe all you need is 5 ingredients. Speaking of baking recipes with few ingredients, this is another 5 ingredient recipe made with chocolate cake mix.
I used devil’s food cake mix because I find that it produces higher quality cookies.
Usually people don’t like to admit that they use cake mix as a short cut, but not me. I use them. Whenever there’s a sale I get them all– every flavor. I don’t care who is watching. It’s really amazing the things you can make with cake mix.
However, you can always smear the top of the cookies with it once they’re finished baking and cooled. It would give the cookies even more cherry flavor!
These double chocolate chip cookies are made with melted butter which makes them so soft and fudgy. I also only used one egg because I didn’t want them to be cake-y.
Usually my cookies are on the bigger side but I decided to make these smaller because I didn’t want each serving to be too rich since there are chocolate chips and sweet cherries in them.
As I’m measuring the chocolate chips I realize that I don’t have enough. I searched the kitchen frantically and found a half-full bag of mini chocolate chips. That was such a life saver because I didn’t want to run all the way to the grocery store just to get some chocolate chips. I also decorated the top of the cookies with the mini chocolate chips. They look so pretty don’t they? Look at the way the maraschino cherries glisten and bring a pop of color to the cookies. It’s quite festive in my opinion.
This recipe comes together in one bowl by the way, and there’s no need to refrigerate the dough (I love cookie recipes where there’s no chilling required). You just mix together the egg, butter, and cake mix. Then, you fold in the chocolate chips and maraschino cherries; this literally only takes 5 minutes. Finally, you roll the dough into balls, pop them into the preheated oven and bake! When the cookies are done baking they’ll still be slightly under baked in the center so you’ll have to let them cool and set on the baking sheet for 15 minutes before devouring them.
This recipe yields 20 cookies. I baked 8 at a time. Make sure that they’re spaced 2 inches apart and also 2 inches away from the edge of the pan. Why? Because you don’t want your cookies melting into each other or coming out shaped like tacos. We want nice, round (flat) cookies.
One simple thing that makes these cookies so much more delightful is baking them on a parchment lined baking sheet so don’t skip this step. You can also use a silicone baking mat.
The cookies are done when the edges are set and the center is soft and under baked. If they come out of the oven raised and kind of puffy, don’t be alarmed. They’ll sink as they cool.
They’re best served warm when the chocolate chips are a little melted and the center is slightly gooey, rich, and decadent.
This recipe is the perfect base because it produces rich chocolate cookies that are fudgy and oh so soft and decadent in the center.
This is a great Cookie Recipe for Kids to make!
This is also one of those recipes where kids can join in and help without you wanting to pull your hair out. It’s a no-fuss, no-fail, have fun kind of recipe.
Easy baking recipes like this are the best!
When you bite into these rich, chocolate cookies you get a burst of that sweet cherry flavor. It’s so good.
This recipe is perfect for those times when you forget to make something for the holidays or for Valentine’s Day. We’ve all been there. Sometimes you get busy and the day or event just sneaks up on you and you need something you can whip up quick. These cookies are for those times. They’re a great last minute treat that’s also cheap so no need to break the bank either. They may not be made from scratch but they’re still homemade and that’s all that matters.
They disappeared pretty fast too. The combination of the soft cookie, melted chocolate chips, and the sweet and juicy cherries make them so delicious!
