This is an easy 4 ingredient recipe for M&M’s Cookie Bars made with cake mix. They’re dense, chewy, buttery and loaded with crunchy candy coated chocolate pieces. They’re so much easier to make than individual cookies. Just mix, press, and bake! Cut them into squares or sticks. Kids love them.
Yes, I’m back with another 4-ingredient recipe. I love recipes with a small list of ingredients because it almost always means that it’s quick and easy to put together. Uncomplicated, no-fuss recipes are my kind of recipes.
I decided to turn these 4 Ingredient Bakery Style Cookies into bars.
Now that summer is fast approaching it’s time to bust out the bright colors! And I’m not just talking about your wardrobe. The warm weather has inspired me to add m&m’s to these cookie bars and also I just love me some m&m’s. It was inevitable.
Look at them! They’re so bright and colorful. They belong at a summer picnic.
So today’s recipe is a shortcut within a shortcut. Instead of making individual cookies we’re going to make bars and instead of making them entirely from scratch we’re using cake mix making these bars 4 ingredient cookie bars.
Bars are so much easier to make than cookies. You don’t have to roll the dough, chill it or make two separate batches. Just press it into the pan and bake!
Yeah, this recipe is a real time saver. It’s the kind of recipe that you keep in your back pocket for when you’re craving something sweet or if you just need a last minute treat.
I love thick, chewy cookies and these bars are just that. The m&m’s provide that little extra crunch and they make these cookie bars look so cheerful.
I had to toss the mini m&m’s in there. Somehow they just taste better in mini form. I did put the regular sized ones in there too though. The mini ones are so rare where I live. Whenever I find them I always make sure to get two bags because I never know when I’m going to come across them again.
Because all of the dough is baked in one pan there’s more chewiness to go around. They’re perfectly chewy, buttery, and just the right amount of sweetness to satisfy that sweet tooth.
Oh yeah, another thing I love about these bars is that there’s no added sugar!
After they’ve cooled they’ll be slightly gooey in the center and those are the most addicting slices. That super chewy, crunchy texture will have you hooked.
Actually, I take that back because the edges are pretty good too. Now I can’t decide if I like the middle slices better or the edge slices. They’re both so good, buttery and dense.
There’s m&m’s studded all throughout the batter and more pressed into the top to make sure that there’s candy-coated chocolate crunch in every bite.
Also, you can cut these however big or small you want. Cut them into squares, sticks, bites, whatever you want. You can even use a cookie cutter to cut them into fun shapes. Kids would love that! I cut my bars big because we’re a bunch of little piggies over here.
It only takes five minutes to make the dough and only a couple minutes to press it into the pan. I literally just use a spoon to put this whole thing together. Kids can make this, no problem. Actually, kids should make this. This is one of those recipes where kids can come into kitchen and get their hands messy and feel accomplished because this recipe is so unbelievably easy.
Have them with a glass of cold milk or on their own. They’re great either way.
I may have had two slices the minute they were done cooling and then another one when I was taking the pictures because I had to eat the one that I took a bite out of. It’s not right to put back the one that’s bitten, right? And then, I maybe had another slice because that’s when I was handing them out to everybody and I think it would have just looked odd if I wasn’t having a slice as well. Yeah, this “trying to watch what I eat because I wanna look hot for summer” thing isn’t working out so well.
There’s a few more cake mix recipes on this site because I like playing around with cake mix. I’ve tried my hand at the chocolate flavor and made these 4 Ingredient Chocolate Cookies and these Rolo-Stuffed Chocolate Cookie Bars (also 4 ingredients), which are deliciously sinful by the way.
Okay, I’m going to stop blabbering now.
